CONSTITUTION and ORGANIZATION
The goal of the Phonological Society of Japan is to contribute to the development of research in the field of phonology.
All with an interest in phonology are welcome to join the Society.

II PhSJ ACTIVITIES
Spring Meeting: once every year, before or after a meeting of the English Literary Society of Japan or the Linguistic Society of Japan.
Lectures by phonologists from abroad.
Phonology Forum: a 2-3 day meeting consisting of research papers presentations and lectures. Held once every year in the last week of August or the first week of September.
Publications：From 1997 onwards, the Society publishes the journal Phonological Studies. The journal mainly contains papers presented at one of the meetings.
（A volume with the title Phonological Theory: Theory and Practice (1996, Kaitakusha) was also published by the Phonology Research Group, the antecedent of the Society.）
Other events or projects proposed by members.
QualificationsAll with an interest in phonology are welcome to join the Society.
Procedures for joining the PhSJ
If you wish to join the Society, please provide the secretariat with the following information.
Regular members \5,000
Student members \4,000
Sustaining members \10,000 (Executives, volunteers)
Supporting members \10,000（Publishers etc.）
- Supporting members may place advertisements in Phonological Studies for an additional \10,000 (one page) or \5,000 (half page). Please contact the secretariat for more information. までお問い合わせ下さい。
- The accounting period is from April 1st ~ March 31st.

- The name of the university to which you are affiliated.
- E.g. lecturer, graduate student, undergraduate student.
- Please indicate if you cannot read Japanese.
- Your personal information will be included in the Society’s member list.

- Please indicate if you do not wish your telephone/fax number/ email (f, g, h) to be included in the member directory.

There are two possible methods of payment.

On site payment at a meeting. (A receipt will be issued.)
You can provide us with your personal details in one of the following three ways.
Fill in your personal details on the money-transfer form.
Fill out the designated form available at research meetings.
Send it to the secretariat treasurer (Nishimura) by mail or E-mail. For the E-mail address, see below.
Registration as a member is completed after the secretariat has received both (1) the annual fee and (2) your personal details.
Registrated members periodically receive the newsletter (see below) and the member directory.
Please inform the secretariat if you do not receive the newsletter or the member list. From the second year on you will receive a notice of payment along with the newsletter.

IV MEMBER BENEFITS
Members of the Society will receive a copy of the journal Phonological Studies for free. (Note that members can only get a free copy of the number published in the year in which the annual fee was paid. Back issues can be purchased with discount.
Members receive the newsletter, which contains information about events related to phonology, several times a year.
Members may present at meetings organized by the Society. However, note that abstracts are subject to review.
Members can attend meetings and lectures by foreign linguists for free.
